Part-Time Preschool Teacher Assistant, Saint Simon Parish School, 2024 – 2025 School Year

Saint Simon Parish School is seeking a part-time preschool teacher assistant for the 2024-2025 school year. The hours for this position are 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm Monday through Friday. Saint Simon Parish School is located in Los Altos, California, serving 530 students in grades preschool through eighth grade. POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Preschool Director, the Preschool Teacher Assistant is responsible for providing assistance and support in the creation of an appropriately safe, caring and enriching environment for children enrolled in the program and for ensuring that the program is supportive of the school’s philosophy, organization, and curriculum. The Preschool Teacher Assistant assists the Preschool Teacher in preparing activities, meeting the needs of students, and creating an effective learning environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING (and other duties as assigned):

  • Implement daily activities as directed by the Preschool Teacher and in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the program.
  • Support the Preschool Teacher in positive classroom management and delivering effective instruction to all students, including in small groups and individually.
  • Assist the Preschool Teacher in maintaining a functioning classroom environment. Examples include but are not limited to: Classroom setup, Materials, Devices, Bulletin boards.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy environment based on the safety and behavioral standards of the school.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other professionals.
  • Monitor and assist individual students in groups to support program activities.
  • Comply with security procedures, including attendance, pick-up, and emergency procedures to ensure the children’s safety.
  • Exhibit warmth and care in working with children in stressful situations.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Two years’ experience working in a Preschool, preferred.

Language Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders of the school.
  • English, required.

  • Infant First Aid and CPR certified.

Part-Time Cafeteria Worker, Saint Simon Parish School, 2024 – 2025 School Year

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Cafeteria Manager, the Cafeteria Worker participates in all aspects of the school cafeteria and food service operations. This includes assisting in the preparation and serving of a variety of food; cleans equipment and utensils; and maintains food service facilities in a clean and sanitary condition on a daily basis.

The Cafeteria Worker fulfills the mission of the school by implementing the school cafeteria and lunch program within the framework of the school’s philosophy and organization and within the guidelines established by the school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING (and other duties as assigned):

  • Participate in the preparation and serving of food. Arranges food and beverage items (e.g. placing in steam tables, a la carte trays, filling racks, mobile carts, etc.) for the purpose of making items available to students and staff.
  • Maintain the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen according to the guidelines established by Santa Clara County Health Department, U.S.D.A., and the Cafeteria Manager.
  • Clean utensils, equipment, and the storage, food preparation and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions.
  • Inspect food items, work areas, etc. (e.g. personal hygiene, proper food temperatures, etc.) for the purpose of preventing cross contamination of food borne illnesses.
  • Load carts, food warmers, trays, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that food and/or beverage items are available for transporting to other sites (by assignment).
  • Serve one or more items of food for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel.
  • Collect payments for food items from students and staff for the purpose of completing transactions and/or securing funds for reimbursement of costs.
  • Respond to inquiries of students, staff, and the public for the purpose of providing information and/or directing to others.
  • Use proper body mechanics and cleaning procedures for the purpose of preventing accidental injuries to self and others.
  • Use proper procedures with receiving and storage of groceries and kitchen supplies.
  • Report to the Cafeteria Manager any faulty equipment or inferior quality food.
  • Assist in the daily cleaning and sanitation of kitchen, equipment, dishes, and utensils.
  • Demonstrate ability to follow recipes.
