Director of School Personnel & Faith Formation

Position Description
The Director of School Personnel and Faith Formation acts as a consultative resource for 50 (40 elementary, 10 secondary) Catholic schools under the jurisdiction of the Archbishop of Portland in Oregon. The Director provides leadership and direction in the formulation of policies and guidelines for Catholic schools and ensures consistency in their application. Continued growth in Catholic identity and religious formation in the schools is also a major focus.
 

Consults with pastors to facilitate the principal search process and serves on search committees. Acts as a resource in the recruitment and training of teachers and on other human resource matters. Assists with certification of licensed school personnel and the evaluation/assessment process for school administrators in addition to coordinating professional and faith formation programs. This position works with principals and pastors on behalf of the Department of Catholic Schools and collaborates with other diocesan offices/departments as necessary.

Qualifications
  • Masters’ degree in School Administration and a minimum of 5 - 10 years’ experience in education; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above-described essential functions. Specific experience in a complex, nonprofit, multi-unit organization with service orientation and experience in human resources and in overseeing a faith formation program for administrators and teachers.
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with thorough knowledge of Church traditions and teachings along with working knowledge of the current teachings of the Church, especially in the area of Catholic education.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, creativity, decision-making, use of discretion, teamwork, negotiation, service orientation, public relations, fostering the Church’s mission, independent judgment/action, presentations/teaching, supervising and problem analysis. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing (including presentations); establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, schools, vendors, and the general public.  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, all basic office equipment, and valid driver’s license are required. Archdiocesan experience preferred. Bilingual in Spanish desirable. Religious and clergy interested in applying must have consent of their diocese or superior prior to submitting their application.

Resource Specialist Program Positions

Description
Archbishop Riordan is looking to fill several positions for our Resource Specialist Program. We are looking for positions that range from after school tutor to full time resource aides to Tier Coordinators.
 
Job Responsibilities
 
After School Tutor work one on one with a student with a diagnosed learning difference two days a week after school on our campus.  Assist student with homework, test prep, organization, etc.  Specific times are flexible and there is an opportunity to work with more than one student.
 
Full-Time RSP Aide Work with RSP students whose diagnosis range from ADHD, Dyslexia, other processing disorders to high functioning autism.  Assist them in test taking, pull out and push in sessions and after school homework help.  You will also work closely with coordinators and RSP director to establish and maintain Individual Service Plans for students in college prep high school.
 
Tier 1 Coordinator The focus of this position is to oversee thirty students in Tier 1 of the Resource Specialist Program, and support them in their academic success.  Students in Tier 1 are students diagnosed with ADHD or other diagnoses that don’t require Special Education, but do require some accommodations.  The coordinator would also be responsible for creating and teaching a study skills course for freshman in this Tier.  Act as a liaison between students, faculty and family, meeting with each student and there family 1-2 times a year.  Work closely with RSP director and other aids to maintain ISP goals.  Oversee one to two full time aides.
 
Tier 3 Coordinator   The main focus of this position is to oversee ten to twelve students in Tier 3 of the Resource Specialist Program, and support them in their academic success.  Students in Tier 3 are students diagnosed with specific learning differences and need more support than can be provided in a completely mainstreamed program.  The coordinator would act as a liaison between students, faculty and family, meeting with each student and there family three times a year.  Work closely with RSP director and other aids to maintain ISP goals.  Oversee one to two full time aids.  Oversee three to five after school tutors who tutor each student in Tier 3 two days a week.
 
Qualifications and Requirements
Desired qualifications scaled to meet the job descriptions.
Experience working with students with diagnosed learning differences will be given priority.  
Tier Coordinators currently working on or having completed a special education degree are preferred.
