Revive Marriages

Marriage in Today's Society

Sirach 26: 1-4 "Happy the husband of a good wife, twice-lengthened are his days; a worthy wife brings joy to her husband, peaceful and full is his life.  A good wife is a generous gift bestowed upon him who fears the Lord; be he rich or poor, his heart is content and a smile is ever on his face."

How many couples can honestly relate to this description of marriage?  Marriage, as a sacrament and covenant, has certainly suffered - especially during the last five decades.  Retrouvaille is a peer ministry program that offers tools and hope to struggling couples and families to reverse the unfortunate trend towards separation and divorce.

Although Catholic in origin, couples of multiple denominations have attended.  After an initial weekend experience, a series of Post sessions every other week reinforces ideas and offers insights while establishing better habits of communication.  Eventually, difficult issues can be dealt with in positive ways.

Sirach 25: 1  "With three things I am delighted, for they are pleasing to the Lord and to mankind: Harmony among brethren, friendship among neighbors, and the mutual love of husband and wife."

Words such as these and the Holy Spirit inspire Retrouvaille volunteer couples as they offer methods to revive marriages.  It is vitally important to carry forward news of the upcoming August 20-22, 2010 Retrouvaille program in San Jose.  Consider how costly broken marriages and families are for our society.  Simply telling someone about Retrouvaille is one way that you can encourage a person or couple to actually value their relationship enough to take a step in a better direction.

Couples ready to end difficult periods of disillusionment or those who strive to rebuild a healthier marriage can visit www.retrouvaille.org to read about the program.  It is easy to find program dates and locations and there are tabs to register.  For further information, please call 408.605.4998.
