Admissions
Admissions criteria-- The mission of the Institute is the formation of lay leaders. The ideal candidate being considered for the Institute should possess:
- a call to the ministry of leadership within the Catholic community
- demonstrated or potential leadership ability
- recent participation in some form of pastoral ministry
- a willingness to commit to 10–12 hours per month for classes and seminars
- the ability to devote additional hours outside of class for reading and writing papers.
Pastor recommendation--
- Pastors complete the ILM Recommendation Form for each candidate being recommended.
- The Recommendation Form is available for downloading as a PDF or fillable online through DSJ.org email accounts.
- The forms are sent to the Director of the Institute by June 30.
- Parishes may nominate several candidates to the English and/or Spanish tracks.
Application process--
- Recommendation: All prospective students must be recommended by their pastor.
- Letter of Intent: Once a Recommendation Form is received, candidates will be contacted by the Director and asked to write a short letter of intent.

- Learning Covenant: Candidates are asked to read, sign and return the Learning Covenant with their letter.
Please note: Students are accepted on a “first come first served” basis. When a class is full, the applicant will be placed on a waiting list and is guaranteed admission the following year.
