2010 Compliance Audit
The Diocese of San Jose and the Office for the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults will participate in the annual Safe Environment Audit, conducted by the Gavin Group on behalf of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). Scheduled for the week of October 4, 2010, this audit involves the Chancery and parish visits for compliance of the national Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.
Article 12 of the Charter specifies that Safe Environment Training must be provided and that all clergy, employees, and volunteers who minister to minors and vulnerable adults must receive such training. This training is also to be offered to children and their parents.
Article 13 requires background checks for clergy, and employees and volunteers who work directly with youth and vulnerable adults. The Diocese utilizes LiveScan fingerprinting to conduct these background checks.
The people of the Diocese of San Jose carry out this mission of making sure our children and vulnerable adults are safe and that abuse of any kind will not be tolerated.
The Compliance Auditors came to the Diocese of San Jose on October 4 - 8, 2010. A list of 10 Parishes with 5 Parish including Saint Catherine of Alexandria Parish and Saint Justin Parish have volunteered for the audit, an additional 5 Parish were selected randomly.
