Operation Rice Bowl
Operation Rice Bowl
The Lenten program of Catholic Relief Services, helping Catholic in the United States to connect with our poor and vulnerable brothers and sisters at home and abroad. ORB funds development programs which alleviate hunger and poverty throughout the world and within the United States.
Operation Rice Bowl not only helps people throughout the world but it is also designed to build solidarity as we learn about different areas of the world, the challenges that people are facing, and specific programs that can change their lives for the better.

The CRS/Rice Bowl programs help people and communities to better their lives in a number of key ways:
- Hunger: Developing agriculture, improving water and sanitation, providing a safety net for those who have no other means of support.
- Education: Especially for girls, which also helps prevent human trafficking
- Health: Community-based health care systems, which also cares for those affected by HIV/AIDS
- Microfinance: Small community loans to develop small businesses, especially for women
| Catholic Social Teaching is woven through Operation Rice Bowl so that, as we learn about the world and its challenges, we also reflect on our faith response. This is one of the unique features of this Lenten program for Catholics. |
