Lay Ecclesial Ministry

The Diocese of San Jose is blessed to have many dedicated, competent men and women who have been entrusted with roles that entail ministerial leadership and coordination within parishes, hospitals, schools, church organizations, and diocesan offices. This particular expression of lay activity in our Church is called “lay ecclesial ministry.” Lay ecclesial ministry is a way of serving the mission of Christ that

  • flows from baptism and the gifts of the Spirit,
  • involves a commitment and responsibility for ecclesial leadership, and
  • requires appropriate formation and authorization to collaborate with the ordained in their work of pastoring the People of God.
Attention all Lay Ecclesial Ministers

The Diocesan Council for Lay Ecclesial Ministers, invites you to their fourth annual morning of prayer, followed by a reception, for you, your staff and the Lay Ecclesial Ministers in your parish. It will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Parish.  Our theme will be "Pathways to Ministry".

This year, we will be recognizing those Lay Ecclesial Ministers who serve the Church of San Jose through the diocesan office and those lay ecclesial ministers who will be retiring this coming spring.  If you are planning on retiring sometime before July 1st would you please let me know so that you can be included in the ceremony.

For planning purposes we would appreciate an RSVP. Select this link to respond on line or you may contact Lynda DeManit or 408 629-7777 ext. 14 by Thursday, March 4th.

Please extend an invitation to your pastor, the priests you work with and your staff so that we can join together for this opportunity to gather in prayer as co-workers in the vineyard of the Diocese of San Jose.

The Council looks forward to this opportunity to gather in prayer with you.
