Diocese's new schools superintendent jumps into job

Found in 1/31/10 Mercury news....

Some might be confused by Kathy Almazol's job title, but she knows exactly what she's doing.

"When people hear I'm a superintendent, they often think I work for the county Board of Education," she said.

Nope, that would be Charles Weis. Almazol is superintendent of the Diocese of San Jose's Department of Education. That puts her in charge of 30 Roman Catholic elementary schools and six high schools, stretching from Palo Alto to Gilroy. (more)

A Prayer After the Earthquake in Haiti (English)

On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit southern Haiti, ten miles from the capital, Port-Au-Prince. Heavy damage, severe injuries, and serious loss of life are expected.

Two Americans still missing in the rubble are Catholic aid workers from the Diocese of Norwich, Connecticut. 

Haiti is the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere. About 80% of Haitians live in poverty.
