January 1 in the Diocese of San Jose
In the United States, January 1, the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God, is one of the holy days of obligation in the liturgical calendar (except when it falls on a Saturday or a Monday). In 2013, January 1st falls on a Tuesday. Bishop Patrick J. McGrath, however, has dispensed the obligation to participate in Mass for that day for those in the Diocese of San Jose. Read more...
