POSITION SUMMARY:

The Children’s Faith Formation Director is responsible for providing vision and coordination for the parish’s efforts in ministry to children from Pre-school through 4th grade and as the vital liaison with St. Nicholas School.  This includes, but is not limited to Pre-School, Kindergarten, and 1st-4th grade Faith Formation, First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Vacation Bible Camp. This position is full-time, exempt and reports to the Pastor.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct & coordinate:
    • Sunday morning children’s Liturgy and children’s Mass (Possibly a shared task with the Director of Youth Faith Formation)
    • Children’s Faith Formation (grades 1-4)
    • First Reconciliation and First Communion program (grade 2)
    • Vacation Bible Camp
    • Teacher/Catechist training
  • Act as primary liaison between St. Nicholas Parish and St. Nicholas School as one of its Campus Ministers for all grades. Duties include:
    • Assisting/supporting Clergy visits during the week, as needed
    • Assisting with Liturgical events and school Masses, as needed
    • Assisting & collaborating with 2nd Grade Teacher in First Reconciliation and First Communion preparation.
    • Work in concert with the Director of Youth Faith Formation to connect the parish-centric Sacramental programs with the formation activities at the school for students in grades 5 through 8 (such as: the 8th grade confirmation).
  • Coordinate, in collaboration with Clergy, formation programs for faith formation and school parents and teachers.
  • Oversee Sacramental programs for Baptism, First Reconciliation and First Communion for youth desiring to enter the Church.
  • Manage the budgets connected to Children’s Faith Formation & School Liaison Ministries.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

 The superb candidate will have:

 BA or equivalent, preferably in education and/or child development

  • Experience teaching either professionally or as a volunteer catechist
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in composing reports, correspondence and letters and in publishing e-newsletters and flyers in English.
  • A friendly outgoing demeanor who would be comfortable engaging parents and parishioners
  • A love for the Church and for small children
  • Has full time access to a car for transportation and a driver’s license
  • Coursework in catechetics or a certified basic catechist is desired, but not required.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours; in particular, must be present during faith formation hours: Sundays 8am to 12noon, and Mondays 5pm to 8pm.
