“Once one chooses to become a disciple of Jesus Christ, stewardship is not an option.”Bishop John J. McRaith
Lay men and women hear and answer the universal call to holiness primarily and uniquely in the secular realm. They are found “in each and every one of the world’s occupations and callings and in the ordinary circumstances of social and family life. There they are called by God to contribute to the sanctification of the world from within, like leaven, in the spirit of the Gospel, by fulfilling their own particular duties.”
This call is given in the Sacraments of Initiation. The gift of self is one of the greatest you can share with others. Volunteering in your parish and/or school is a rich opportunity to share your time and talent with others. Take advantage of the myriad opportunities to become more deeply involved in your parish and/or school – teach in a catechetical/sacramental preparation program, be a lector, join the choir, provide hospitality, organize and staff social and fund-raising events, provide outreach to the poor and homebound, serve on an advisory body – there is away for you to serve! Enrich your faith and your life by participating fully in the life of your parish and/or school.
