St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Milpitas, CA, seeks a part-time Summer Program Assistant for our 2023 summer program. The dates for the summer program are June 12 – August 4 and there is no session from July 3-7. This position is specifically for the afternoon (12:30pm – 4:30pm).

POSITION SUMMARY: The Summer Program Assistant will support a variety of learning opportunities for students, including math and ELA summer review, STEM activities, art, physical education, and recreational activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Assist cleaning and sanitizing the classroom area and equipment, indoors and outdoors, before, during and after program hours.
  • Assist students with summer review work.
  • Assist with STEM activities as needed.
  • Prepare and present art activities, games and/or outdoor activities
  • Organize and supervise student physical education activities
  • Develop and maintain professional working relationships through effective communication with the other SSEP staff.
  • Support the emotional and social development of students
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
  • Enjoy spending time with students, as well as developing positive relationships with parents.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned

SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with team members to meet program goals for students

  • Experience with school-age children is a plus
  • Must have the ability to work with children of all ages in a variety of settings (homework, art, outdoors)
  • Strong judgment, discretion and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with SSEP team, students, and parents
  • Must be dependable and punctual

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate
  • Criminal record clearance (fingerprints) through the DOJ and FBI and Safe Environment Training

Technical Skills: Some experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google applications.  Should be able to use electronic mail.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Criminal record clearance (fingerprints) through the DOJ and FBI, valid California driver’s license, Shield the Vulnerable training.

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, lifting, repetitive motion, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing,stretching, twisting.
  • Can lift 25 lbs. in compliance with safety standards.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Handles exposure to climate change and temperature.
  • Level of vision, hearing, speaking required.

Working Conditions: The employee must be able to work cooperatively with program team and school administration
