The Chancery

The Director of Adult Spirituality and Family Life facilitates Diocesan community life by serving and accompanying clergy and parish leaders ministering to families living as the domestic church and overseeing spirituality and formation ministries that serve young adults, adults, couples, and families. The Director assists parish and school leaders in promoting the connection between family life and full participation in the life of the church, including evangelization and Christian service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING
(and other duties as assigned):
Vision, Strategy, and Leadership
In alignment with the vision of the Senior Director of Evangelization, the jobholder provides strategic direction, frameworks, and programs that will enable parishes and schools to provide faith formation and sacramental preparation experiences which help people encounter Jesus. The specific areas of focus are young adults, adults, couples, and families.
Provides direct services to Parishes & Schools in the following:
Young Adult Community Life
 Supports existing and growing parish programs and events as opportunities for young adults to encounter Jesus anew, grow daily as his disciples, and give witness to the power of His mercy
 Provide formation, training and support for parish leaders engaged in young adult ministry
 Convene diocesan young adult councils, such as Consejo Pastoral Juvenil
 Coordinate opportunities for young adults to encounter God, such as Coram Deo
 Convene campus ministry leaders of colleges and universities in our diocese to share best practices Adult Spirituality and Faith Formation
 Supports existing and growing parish programs for adults, couples, and families to encounter Jesus anew, grow daily as his disciples, and give witness to the power of His mercy
 Assist parishes in forming a culture of invitation and hospitality to unmarried couples and couples in all stages of their relationship.
 Assist parish leaders in implementing hospitality programs to encourage full participation in parish life
 Assists pastors and parish leaders in the formation, training, and support of adult spirituality and family ministry leaders.
 Provide resources and support for parishes to establish and maintain adult formation programs, including faith-sharing groups

Sacramental Preparation
 Coordinate the diocesan program of workshops and retreats for marriage preparation to supplement parish-based preparation
 Coordinate diocesan program for training couples in Natural Family Planning.
 Provide resources, formation, and training opportunities for parish leaders who prepare families for infant baptism.
Family Ministries
 Provides resources and workshops to leaders of parish family ministries to equip them to build the domestic Church throughout the stages of family life. (e.g. Christian parenting, couple prayer, retreats,
etc.)
 Provides resource connections for parishes to support struggling families (bereavement, divorce, widowed, infertility, addictions, immigration, blended families, children with special needs, mental
health, etc.).
 Provides and facilitates authentic pastoral support for LGBTQ+ community and families
 Assists parishes with programs and resources for marriage enrichment (workshops, marriage coaching, events); and, acts as Diocesan liaison to movements that promote marriage and family life (e.g.
Marriage Encounter, Retrouvaille, Cursillo, etc.).
Finances and Operations:
 Prepares and maintains the annual budget for Adult Spirituality and Family Life office.
 Defines and communicates diocesan guidelines related to baptism preparation, young adult ministry, adult ministries, marriage preparation, family ministries and Catholic community organizations.
 Maintains current records and files.
 May oversee the purchasing and orders all materials as appropriate
Collaboration and Communication:
 Regularly communicates with parishes and Chancery regarding programs and impact
 Develops networking among parishes to share best practices and resources.
 Approves and maintains appropriate web content for adult formation and family ministries on Diocesan public website.
 Works closely with Communications Office to engage and identify success stories and events, coordinate editorial calendar and share the Good News!
Other Responsibilities
 Serves as diocesan representative for regional, national and international young adult and family life forums and professional organizations
 Assists with the implementation of the Diocesan Pastoral Plan and the Evangelization Framework as it affects the family life of the diocese
 Other duties as assigned
THIS POSITION SUPERVISES (Leading, Guiding and Managing Staff):
 Coordinator of Adult Spirituality & Family Life
 External instructors for natural family planning and marriage preparation courses
QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

Education and/or Experience:
 BA in pastoral ministry, theology or related field
 Preferred: MA in pastoral ministry, catechetics, theology, or equivalent formal education
 5-7 years of leadership experience in pastoral ministry serving young adults, adults and families
 Understanding of current principles in Catechetics, Faith Formation
 Knowledge of major church documents related to evangelization, and catechesis
Language Skills: Multilingual, English and Spanish or English and Vietnamese is preferred; Strong verbaland written communication skills:
 Able to develop and facilitate workshops, training, and presentations.
 Able to read and understand Church documents, guidelines, and professional journals.
 Able to understand and explain policies and answer questions.
 Able to write presentations and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and individuals in multicultural diocesan, school, and parish settings.
Computational Skills: Ability to read and manage a budget and contribute to building an office budget. Ability to use external and internal websites and edit as appropriate.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where varying degrees of standardization exist.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, and basic knowledge of internet applications and social media platforms.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid driver’s license.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, use hands in repetitive motion tasks, handle objects and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must also be able to transport and set up items at an off-site work space for presentation, liturgies, and other events, such as Chrism Mass.
Physical Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee will work in an individual office with a door. The offices are situated next to one another. The noise level is usually quiet. The space is wheelchair accessible. Some of the work will be performed in various parish locations, including churches, halls and
classrooms. Noise level and accommodations will vary.
Working Conditions: The employee must be physically present in the office during normal office house to complete office tasks. The employee must be able to multi-task and work cooperatively, negotiate, communicate, and collaborate with other members of the staff and clients of various cultures, personalities, and spiritualties. The employee is expected to work outside normal office hours on a regular basis as required. When necessary, the employee will work off-site under varying working conditions. Travel may be required.

 Must be a practicing Catholic and have in-depth knowledge of Church structure, culture, and mission.
 Proven leadership ability with community, religious, social, and professional organizations.
 Familiarity with Santa Clara County, and the roles and responsibilities of parishes
 Has good interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style. Able to Build relationships quickly and interact with people involved in parish and school ministries
 Demonstrates a commitment to high professional ethical standards.
 Has organizational skills required to manage many people and projects.
 Passionate about the work of making disciples and supporting the parish mission
 Able to work evenings and weekends, as required
 Candidate must support the teachings and values of the Catholic Church and its mission.

SALARY RANGE: $75,000 – 95,000 based on experience and education.
