POSITION SUMMARY:
Under supervision, duties include facility set-up, the capability to perform minor preventative maintenance tasks on equipment and machinery such as lubrication, filter changes, and the like. Assists in the movement and relocation of furniture, equipment, and machinery as required. Requires skills in carpentry, plumbing, painting, and some electrical. May also do minor gardening tasks that assist in keeping the grounds safe and orderly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- To Provides basic maintenance and repair to the parish buildings and grounds.
- Perform repairs, modifications, and preventative maintenance on the parish buildings, facilities, fixtures and systems.
- Tasks may include but are not limited to troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of plumbing, mechanical and electrical systems; light carpentry; painting; periodic inspections and preventative maintenance.
- May be asked to assist in the relocation of furniture, equipment and machinery as the need arises. Some duties are performed in an outdoor environment which may involve adverse weather conditions and related hazards.
- Building maintenance duties are performed independently, using skills brought to the job. Repairs, replaces, and installs electrical components including electrical motors, circuits, wires, outlets, fixtures, appliances, ballasts, and lights.
- Minor repair, replacement, and installation plumbing fixtures and appliances.
- Provides remodeling services requiring carpentry skills; fastens cabinets and white boards to walls, replaces doors and locks, paints, puts furniture together.
- Performs preventative maintenance duties such as changing filters and lubricating equipment. Lifts and moves furniture and supplies within and between buildings. As needed assists with set up and tear down of tables, chairs, presentation systems, and church functions.
- Attends work on a regular and dependable basis.
- Interacts in a professional and respectful manner with church and school staff, volunteers, parishioners, parents, students, and the public.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:
(ie. education, good communication skills, evening/weekend hours, ability to lift 50 lbs.) One year of general building maintenance experience involving plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical skills; or substituting any equivalent combination of experience and training; physical strength and agility required by the position, 25-range electrical multi-tester; hand tools including, but not limited to, hammer, drill, saw pipe, wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, various saws; janitorial equipment; plumbing equipment; electrical components; ladders; motor vehicle.
The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places, and risk of electrical shock. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift weights up to 100 pounds.
Proficient in English and Spanish in all of the following areas: Ability to read instructions, correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral diagram or schedule form. Must be able to work well with staff, school, and parishioners.
This position is a 12 hour a week position, Monday — Friday.
Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, lifting (50 lbs), repetitive motion, bending, stooping, climbing ladders, stretching, twisting, and crouching.
Other Requirements: Must be available on-call for emergencies, evenings and weekends, when needed.
Salary Range: $18.00 per – $19.00 per hour, based on education and experience
