What is a Jubilee Year?

A Jubilee is a special year of prayer. Jubilees are times for forgiveness, reconciliation, and pilgrimage and are a part of the Catholic tradition. Jubilees ordinarily take place every twenty-five years.

During the Jubilee Year 2025, Pope Francis is calling on all the faithful to become Pilgrims of Hope. The Jubilee Year begins when Pope Francis opens the Holy Doors at St. Peter’s Basilica on December 24, 2024. The doors will remain open until the end of the Jubilee Year on January 6, 2026. During the Jubilee, the faithful are encouraged to participate, either by going on pilgrimage to Rome or locations in our diocese to be announced.
