Bishop Oscar Cantú is pleased to announce the establishment of the Office of Pastoral Planning and Implementation. This newly formed office emerges from our ongoing synodal and pastoral planning process, reflecting our commitment to enhance collaboration, open communication, and maintaining accountability in every phase of implementation. The office will play a pivotal role in securing essential resources, ensuring all our parishes and schools are equipped to lead our pastoral plan and our overarching goal of spiritual renewal. 

Bishop Oscar Cantú also announces the hiring of Steve Milligan, who will serve as the Director of Pastoral Planning and Implementation, reporting to Rosio Gonzalez, Chief Operating Officer. Steve has been actively participating in our pastoral planning, serving as a delegate and a commissioner.

Bishop Oscar Cantú shared, “Guided by the Holy Spirit through our synodal journey, the inauguration of this office underscores our unwavering commitment to spiritual renewal and unity within our diocese. I’m confident in Steve’s ability to provide the guidance and leadership to steer the successful implementation of our pastoral vision.”

Steve brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in strategic planning, financial management, leadership, communication, and collaboration, most recently from his position as Chief Executive Officer at Western Digital Corporation. Steve and his wife, Anne, have been married for 31 years and have two children who attended Catholic schools in the diocese.  They are long-time parishioners of St. Mary’s Parish in Los Gatos. Steve holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Ohio State University, is a student in the Institute for Leadership in Ministry (ILM) and is deeply committed to the Church’s mission to go out and make disciples! Steve will begin his ministry on October 23, 2023. 

Steve expressed his hopes for this new role, saying, “Having been intricately involved in the pastoral planning process since the beginning as a Synod delegate, I am very excited by the emerging Pastoral Plan. I am grateful and enthusiastic for the opportunity to lead the Pastoral Planning and Implementation Office under the able stewardship of Bishop Cantú and Rosio Gonzalez. I look forward to engaging with the clergy, staff, and lay faithful of the Diocese of San José in realizing the ultimate goal of Spiritual Renewal as the overarching goal of the Pastoral Plan.”
