Forming Intentional Disciples: Staff and Coordinator Training Day
November 21, 2013 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
$15.00Sherry Weddell’s and Fr. Michael Fones’ workshop will invite us to wrestle with the implications of forming intentional disciples. We will address:
– today’s spiritual climate
– thresholds of pre-discipleship
– intro to threshold conversation
The presentation will be given in English with language discussion groups.
It is highly recommended to read the book Forming Intentional Disciples — The Path to Knowing and Following Jesus by Sherry A. Weddell, Our Sunday Visitor Publishing before attending the training.
Here’s what one participant from the Diocese of Lansing, Michigan, said of Sherry’s workshop:
People are more than happy. It was revolutionary. I spoke to a few people who were definitely shocked at the idea that they could have a personal relationship with Christ. One DRE said it was the most amazing diocesan event he had been to in 14 years of ministry. Another said she had to go back and completely rethink all of her programming. Another RCIA director wrote me today that said he needed to completely revamp how they evaluated participants and taught according to the thresholds. Several priests have said it will change the way they help people grow close to God.
Sherry Weddell co-founded the Catherine of Siena Institute with Father Michael Sweeney, O.P., to equip parishes to form lay Catholics for their mission in the world. Sherry created the first gifts-discernment program designed especially for Catholics, and she currently leads CSI’s international team of teachers and facilitators, who have formed over 85,000 lay, religious and ordained Catholics in 105 dioceses in the art of evangelizing postmoderns, in gifts and vocational discernment, and in understanding the theology and mission of the laity.
Fr. Michael Fones, O.P. was ordained in 1992 and has served in campus ministry at Arizona State University, and the Universities of Utah, Oregon and Arizona. Currently he is the co-Director of the Catherine of Siena Institute, a program of the Western Province dedicated to the transformation of parishes into centers of formation for lay apostles. He works with Sherry Weddell, who co-founded the Institute with Fr. Michael Sweeney, O.P.
