The Joseph Naik Vaz Institute, based in the San Francisco Bay Area invites you to Mass in honor of the April Birthday of St. Joseph (Naik) Vaz, Apostle of Sr Lanka and Kanara, India, on Saturday April 20, 2024.The Bilingual Tamil-English Mass is being organized jointly with the Sacred Heart Tamil Catholic community at Our Lady of Refuge Parish, 2165 Lucretia Ave., San Jose, CA at 7:00 p.m.The Celebrant of the Mass will be Rev. Dr. Louis Lava S.J. , from the Jesuit School of Theology at S.C.U.
St. Joseph (Naik) Vaz, an Indian born in Goa, first smuggled himself into the northern traditionally Tamil part of Sri Lanka in 1687. He was first sheltered by the few underground Catholics there.Our Institute has organized Masses and Novenas in the Bay Area and submitted Petitions to three current Popes for a conclusion to his Cause Our final Petition for his Canonization was accepted by His Holiness Pope Francis., who canonized him in 2015.
