Director/Coordinator of Children’s Faith Formation, St. Nicholas and St. William Parish, Los Altos

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Children’s Faith Formation Director is responsible for providing vision and coordination for the parish’s efforts in ministry to children from Pre-school through 4th grade and as the vital liaison with St. Nicholas School.  This includes, but is not limited to Pre-School, Kindergarten, and 1st-4th grade Faith Formation, First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Vacation Bible Camp. This position is full-time, exempt and reports to the Pastor.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct & coordinate:
    • Sunday morning children’s Liturgy and children’s Mass (Possibly a shared task with the Director of Youth Faith Formation)
    • Children’s Faith Formation (grades 1-4)
    • First Reconciliation and First Communion program (grade 2)
    • Vacation Bible Camp
    • Teacher/Catechist training
  • Act as primary liaison between St. Nicholas Parish and St. Nicholas School as one of its Campus Ministers for all grades. Duties include:
    • Assisting/supporting Clergy visits during the week, as needed
    • Assisting with Liturgical events and school Masses, as needed
    • Assisting & collaborating with 2nd Grade Teacher in First Reconciliation and First Communion preparation.
    • Work in concert with the Director of Youth Faith Formation to connect the parish-centric Sacramental programs with the formation activities at the school for students in grades 5 through 8 (such as: the 8th grade confirmation).
  • Coordinate, in collaboration with Clergy, formation programs for faith formation and school parents and teachers.
  • Oversee Sacramental programs for Baptism, First Reconciliation and First Communion for youth desiring to enter the Church.
  • Manage the budgets connected to Children’s Faith Formation & School Liaison Ministries.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

 The superb candidate will have:

 BA or equivalent, preferably in education and/or child development

  • Experience teaching either professionally or as a volunteer catechist
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in composing reports, correspondence and letters and in publishing e-newsletters and flyers in English.
  • A friendly outgoing demeanor who would be comfortable engaging parents and parishioners
  • A love for the Church and for small children
  • Has full time access to a car for transportation and a driver’s license
  • Coursework in catechetics or a certified basic catechist is desired, but not required.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours; in particular, must be present during faith formation hours: Sundays 8am to 12noon, and Mondays 5pm to 8pm.

Catechetical Assistant – St. Julie Billiart Parish, San Jose, CA

Position Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

 Assist the Faith Formation Director in daily administrative operations and catechetical ministry needs of the parish. The Catechetical Assistant is expected to coordinate the Youth Sacramental Preparations Program and work closely with the Faith Formation Director in planning and executing the Catechetical program of the parish. The applicant is also expected to do the following, but not limited to:

  • Maintain records of payments and send notifications for any unpaid registrations dues to enrolled families in the Faith Formation Program.
  • Managing and scheduling events for Faith formation in the church’s calendar.
  • Manage and assist in providing logistics and volunteers for set up and clean up at all Faith Formation activities both within the parish campus and outside venues.
  • Inventory of supplies and materials for Faith Formation Program.
  • Maintain filing system of Faith Formation Data including Parish Soft Program and others.
  • Organizing the Youth Mass: includes training youth/teens enrolled in Faith Formation program to be liturgical ministers; and collaborate with the Liturgy Coordinator in preparing liturgical objects/resources needed for this Mass.
  • Oversees all Faith Formation program activities to be compliant with Diocesan Policies.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Provide administrative assistance support in the front office and other parish activities when needed.

 Technical/Computer Skills:

  • Microsoft Office Suite necessary.
  • Parish Soft program skill is a plus.

 Language Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in composing reports, correspondence and letters and in publishing e-newsletters and flyers in English and Spanish.

 EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 2 years of experience in Pastoral and Catechetical ministry to families, children, youth, and lay volunteers. Graduate of Institute of Leadership in Ministry (ILM) and Degree or Certification in Catechetical Ministry would be a plus.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to solve problems, make sound decisions, and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • This position requires availability on weekends and flexible hours on some evenings.
