Specific Job Responsibilities

Instructional Practice & Student Development

  • Plan for instruction of assigned course(s) by developing annual, unit, and lesson plans aligned with Common Core State Standards curriculum and the individual needs of their students.
  • Set high expectations for student development and ensure all students develop grade-level proficiency to prepare for success in high school, college, and career.
  • Design a comprehensive program to support academic, social, emotional, spiritual, physical, moral, and character development of every student. Promote student development of the whole person — mind, body, and spirit.
  • Identify and remediate subject matter in which students require additional support. Identify and provide extension activities for students who are ready to progress.
  • Develop interim benchmarks and assessments linked to course standards and work with other faculty and administrators to analyze results and refocus instruction based on student needs.
  • Differentiate instruction to allow students with differing learning styles to access course content.
  • Utilize classroom technology to engage students’ learning.

Leadership and Collaboration

All teachers are expected to participate in the following:

  • Understand and appreciate the developmental and educational benefits of the school’s relationship with the Parish, the Jesuit Pastor, and the Jesuit Associate Pastors.
  • Provide feedback and support to student engagement and support committees and counseling team to identify and support students who are struggling behaviorally or emotionally.
  • Participate in grade-span PLC meetings to coordinate curriculum and pedagogy for particular development levels and better understand student needs.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/families to share academic progress and develop a supportive home-school relationship.

Qualifications

  • Teaching experience, preference with low-income student population
  • Bachelor’s degree, preference to a relevant Master’s degree, Teaching Credential, and/or professional experience
  • A valid CA teaching credential is required; however, if a candidate does not presently have a valid CA teaching credential they will be required to obtain one within a time period prescribed by the Diocese of San Jose;

Catechectical Ministry Coordinator – (Full-Time) – St. Justin Parish, Santa Clara

F/T COORDINATOR OF CATECHETICAL MINISTRY:
St. Justin, a thriving parish community, is seeking a qualified person to be responsible for designing dynamic and engaging catechetical programs that support lifelong learning.

The Coordinator works collaboratively with staff, catechetical personnel, volunteers to develop, strengthen, and promote authentic and effective faith formation. Specifically, the Coordinator provides leadership, support, consultation and resources to those engaged in catechesis.

The Coordinator should have a passion for re-imagining where, how, and when faith formation takes place, an understanding of culture and cultures and an ability to work collaboratively to build teams are essential. Salary determined according to Diocesan guidelines

Education and Experience

• M.A. degree in Catechesis, Religious Studies, Theology, Pastoral Ministry or equivalent, Master Catechist certification.
• At least 5 years of experience as Coordinator of Faith Formation.
• Strong experience on the diocesan or parish level in developing and implementing catechesis, family ministry, and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and Children.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of the systems, structures, and teachings of the Catholic Church and the Church’s catechetical documents.
• Knowledge of contemporary research, trends, resources, methodology, programming, and best practices in catechetical ministry.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in operating various computer programs such as Word, Excel, ParishSOFT, email, and PowerPoint.

• Ability to make decisions, meet deadlines, and handle multiple projects/priorities effectively and efficiently.
• Ability to effectively present information in one‐on‐one, small, or large group situations.
• Ability to set, execute, and evaluate goals/objectives/outcomes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with parish and school personnel, and other diocesan staff.
• Extroverted and pro-active individual who portrays enthusiasm, a self-starter and able to work independently.

Some Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with parish, school and diocesan staff in promoting authentic, effective, and life‐long catechesis.
• Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers on the development and implementation of policies, programs, and best practices regarding catechetical ministry.
• Maintain current database of catechists and other personnel engaged in catechesis.
• Orientation of new families interested in the program.
• Enlisting and training of new catechists.
• Making sure all catechists fulfill Diocesan requirements (finger printing, safe environment attendance, etc.)
