Long-Term Substitute Teacher for Primary Grades, St. Nicholas Catholic School

Under the direct supervision of the principal, a long-term Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing academic instruction an appropriately safe, caring and enriching environment for children in TK/K through 8th grade while the primary teacher is off site. The Substitute Teacher ensures the program is supportive of the school’s philosophy, organization, and curriculum, executing the lessons as prepared by the primary teacher’s Lesson Plans assisting with the needs of students, and supports learning by creating an atmosphere where students are active and engaged.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING (and other duties as assigned):

  • Facilitating the teacher’s lesson plans to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students.
  • Providing in-class and at-home assignments based on the teacher’s lesson plan.
  • Developing lesson plans and assignments consistent with the primary teacher’s past lesson plans.
  • Overseeing normal classroom rhythms.
  • Supervising in all areas of the school including in class, at lunch, during recess, and in corridors.
  • Lecturing lessons with textbooks, presentations, and other learning material.
  • Collaborating with lead teachers, assistant teachers, and school administrators.
  • Collecting homework and organizing the assignments for teacher’s return.
  • Promoting good behavior and high-quality engagement.
  • Managing the classroom to encourage student participation, minimize distractions, and maintain a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Adapting teaching methods to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Meeting each class on-time.
  • Giving details to the teacher about what happened in class.
  • Respecting all school policies and regulations at all times.
  •  Attending Parent-Teacher Conferences.
  •  Submitting official grades after the grading period.
  • Making sure that your classroom and work area are clean and tidy.
  • Preparing a report for the teacher for when s/he returns.

Education and/or Experience:

  • BA/BS
  • Previous experience implementing educational programming and working with students as a teacher or instructional aide.

Language Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders of the school.
  • English, required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Vietnamese) preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • First Aid and CPR certified
  • Proficient at word processing, presentation, and electronic mail applications.
  • Experience with school information systems (SIS).
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google applications.

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, lifting, repetitive motion, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, stretching, twisting
  • Can operate standard office equipment such as copiers, fax machines, personal computer, telephone, and alarm system.
  • Can lift 10 lbs. in compliance with safety standards.
  • Level of vision, hearing, speaking required.

Salary Range: $300 per day based on education & experience.

Principal, Saint Patrick School– 2024-25 School Year

The Diocese of San Jose is currently seeking a principal for the 2024-2025 school year.

The principal is the spiritual, instructional, and administrative leader of the school, and is responsible with for the effective operation of the school as a Catholic educational institution. He/she is the primary agent for creating an environment that fosters Catholic faith formation, academic excellence, and vitality and viability. He/she is responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere for all members of the school community (faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni and donors) and a climate that encourages the engagement of each student in the learning process while fostering a love for learning.

The responsibilities of the principal include but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership within the school and creating an environment that speaks of the Catholic identity of the school.
  • Developing a rigorous educational program that meets the needs of the student population and maintaining a consistency in academic excellence in line with the school’s accreditation standards.

  • has prior experience as a Catholic Elementary School principal, and a minimum of 5 years of teaching, preferably in a Catholic school

Elementary Dual Language Immersion Teacher (English/Spanish), St. Lawrence Elementary and Middle School

Job Summary: St. Lawrence Elementary and Middle School is looking for a dynamic educator to teach in our 50/50 dual-language immersion program for the 2024-25 school year. The teacher will be responsible for teaching first grade in Spanish for half the day and in English for the other half of the day.

Job Responsibilities: The teacher will be expected to:

  • Conduct 98-100% of instruction in the target language for that subject, either English or Spanish.
  • Teach grade level content in Spanish (Spanish Language Arts, Religion, and Social Studies) and English (Math, English Language Arts).
  • Structure activities in the classroom to encourage students to engage in both language input and output, to facilitate oral language production and comprehension.
  • Avoid any use of translation to facilitate comprehension; rather, the teacher shall use context clues, manipulatives, visuals, and student-centered instruction to facilitate comprehension.
  • Cover assigned staff duties, including recess supervision, as well as other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the school administration.

Qualifications: While not required, the most competitive candidates will:

      • Possess or be working on the following: CA teaching credential and/or a Bilingual Authorization in Spanish.
      • Have significant training in literacy development.
